When designing the Alparka, we set out to make a light ski with the perfect balance of flex and energy, whether you want to swerve or throw down on hardpack and could handle some fresh snow or spring slush. We combined a tough & flexible ash core with carbon bands for extra pop & stability. Built off extra thick edges built for impact durability and a fast, sintered race quality base to match. All packed into a full symmetric ski with an 80% camber and low rocker & taper. After multiple prototypes, we finally settled on a construction that did that for us.
Don’t just take our word for it though, this was how Newschoolers Executive, Peter Matlashewski, described them in his independent “Roofbox Review” :
“A solid ski that works for sending hard in the park, a very snappy ski with substantial stability. Taking off jumps felt solid, especially on landings, There’s very little swing weight, which makes them ideal for quick spins. The fully symmetrical shape gave it a fun bump n’ slash type ski that made for effortless switch skiing. As a skier who enjoys reaching Candide speeds, these held up quite well on really nice groomers. The camber profile allows for decent carving and helps grip a bit more on those cold AF bulletproof days.”

TECHNOLOGY
Fauna Die-Cut 1.8mm PTEX 3000 Base
Race ski quality sintered base material that is 50% thicker than industry standard, making a fast-running, durable base material that is resistant to impact damage and core shots. Die-cut with the Fauna logo tip & tail.
Laminated Ash Core
Vertically laminated, continuous bars of European Ash hardwood which creates a strong, lively, responsive core at the heart of our freestyle skis.
2.2 x 2.5mm Hardened Steel Edges
Thicker than industry standard steel edges in both height & width, to fight the well known scourge of edge cracks & blow-outs from impacts to give longer lasting, durable skis. Using 3/4 edge wrap to decrease the swing weight of the skis allowing the tips to flex, reducing the chance of delamination.
Walnut Gun-Stock Sidewalls
For our sidewalls, Walnut hardwood is the material of choice for its sustainability, durability and hardness; for strong impact resistance and power transmission. If it’s durable enough to be taken to war as gunstocks then its durable enough for sidewalls.
Uni-Directional Carbon Bands
Full length carbon bands formed of continuous carbon fibres from tip to tail to give the skis energy, extra rebound & pop without the weight of full width matting.
Epoxy Protected Wood Veneer Topsheet
Sustainably sourced, hand selected, real hardwood veneer, no plastic imitations here. Every veneer is laser cut to form the marquetry wood designs. The topsheets are finished with a layer of epoxy pressured into the veneer in forming the ski, resulting in a durable, moisture and UV resistant finish.
Triax Fibreglass + Binding Matt
Fibreglass matting woven in 3 directions to give tip to tail, torsional stiffness and strength to help edge hold, power transfer and control. Plus, an extra layer of full width fibreglass matting to give extra binding screw retention and added strength under-foot to transfer power from the bindings.
Screen Printed Alpaca Design by Jack Peppiette
Animal designs drawn by professional tattoo artists exclusively for Fauna Skis, screen printed onto the wood veneer.
