Fauna Skis

Wood Finished Skis for Freeskiers.

2019 Collection

About Us

Every ski day is sacred. Whether that’s because of the price of your gear, travel, lift pass or food; limits to your time off work; or how long the snow lasts, however limited, it is all worth it for that feeling of joy we all know so well, and the reason we find ourselves coming back for more. We have meticulously designed, selected premium materials, built & tested all the skis, so you can perform at your best and make the most of those sacred days on a pair of Fauna skis.

Skis don’t see whether you got to the hill in a sports car or on the bus, whether you are young or old, man or woman, short or tall, they only feel the pressure you put through them. Every skier does this differently & has different ski preferences, that’s why we have a range of skis in various lengths, suiting a wide variety of skiers, so everybody can experience that joy.

Gun Stock Side Walls

Walnut sidewalls are the material of choice for their sustainability, durability and hardness, for strong impact resistance and power transmission. If it’s durable enough to be taken to war as gunstocks, then it’s durable enough for sidewalls. Finished with teak oil to harden & seal against moisture.

Wood Veneer Topsheet

Sustainably sourced wood veneer, using marquetry to give the skis a traditional look for the 21st century. The topsheet and sidewalls are coated with a layer of epoxy, resulting in a durable, moisture and UV resistant finish.

1.8mm thick P-Tex 3000 base

Race ski quality sintered base material that is 50% thicker than industry standard making a fast running, durable base material that is resistant to impact damage and core shots. Die-cut with the Fauna logo tip & tail.

Paulownia & Ash Core

A full wood core combining stringers of strong, lively ash used in our freestyle skis, with one of the fastest growing trees in the world, the super light, yet proportionally strong Paulownia. Giving  responsive, yet light wider freeride skis.

2.5x2.2mm Thick Steel Edges

Thicker than industry standard steel edges in both height & width, to fight the well known scourge of edge cracks & blow-outs from impacts to give longer lasting, durable skis. Using 3/4 edge wrap to decrease the swing weight of the skis allowing the tips to flex, reducing the chance of delamination.

Tri-Axial Fibreglass Reinforcement

Fibreglass matting weaved in 3 directions to give tip to tail and torsional stiffness and strength to help edge hold, power transfer and control. Plus, an extra layer of full width fibreglass matting to give extra screw retention and added strength under-foot to transfer power from the bindings.

Bi-Axial Carbon reinforcement

Carbon fibre matting weaved at ±45° to tips of the skis giving the skis a torsional stiffness boost. Used in combination with fibreglass to add the needed strength for freeride skis with minimal weight gain.
